After having and enjoing my Nikon FE for the past 20 years and being into this digital world for the past 14 years, I was ready to buy a nice digital camera - but which one?

I researched this topic for more than a month; Olympus E20, Nikon 5700 and the Minolta DiMAGE 7i were the top contenders.

This web site and others like it, probably influenced my final decision more than anything else and I am grateful for the service they provide - this one, dpreview.com, in particular I think is the best.

I've had the camera for a week. It has been a joy to use and to learn to use. The manual is fairly well written with succinct information on all of the many, and amazing features this camera has to offer. The manual could be a bit deeper; however, explaining things or suggesting things that go beyond the operational elements such as:

What are the most energy efficient settings for all of the menus?

What are the pros and cons of various storage media?

Why the onboard system date and clock don't require batteries?

Fortunately, this web site (dpreview.com), is a friendly place to find the answers to these questions and others like them, but still Minolta's manual could benefit be including the answers to many of the most frequently asked questions in their own publication.

Not being a professional photographer, I'm a little intimidated to speak about image quality to others who are professionals, but all I can say is that I'm impressed and delighted with the results from the DiMAGE 7i.
