I've had a G2 for a little over 8 months now and i'm loving every minute with it. I've taken over 2500 photos to date, and bought the Canon +1/+2/+4 Macro lens set. Roughly 80% of my shots are taken in Macro mode. I rarely use the internal flash.
Problems:
About the only 'problems' I have with the G2 is that its peripherals are brutally expensive. For example, the Macro Ring Lite is about $600 US/(950 Canadian), and that's plain silly. Nikon's hi-intensity LED/Lithium powered 'Macro Ring Lite' is $150 CAN, or about $90 US, and fits their 995/4500 series camera. I'm almost tempted to buy the Nikon one and reverse engineer it to fit my 46.5mm - 52mm barrel adapter.
The only other 'issue' I have is that I can only shoot 30-second video segments. I have cheapo Kodak MC3 that I drag around as it has about the same quality and uses CF Cards - I can fill the card with ultra-long segments. I'm a bit ticked that I need to have this Kodak MC3 with the cheap lens to perform something that the G2 should be able to do.
Lastly, I use multiple 256MB CF cards each session, and have to insert/remove the cards many times with each photo session. I understand that it's nice to see the product label of the CF Card when in the camera (removing/Inserting), but the little 'finger nail lip' of the CF card is on the underside, and makes getting the card out a little difficult at times. I would have preferred having the CF card top-side down so that the lip could be facing at the back and make removal easier. The same goes with the IBM 1GB Microdrive - it's nearly impossible to remove since it has no lip. I often have to tilt the camera on its side and tap the card to have it slide out - the CF Card bay could have been better designed, IMHO.
However, other than these annoyances, I don't regret - for a moment - its purchase. I use the camera every day for at least an hour and love it to death. I eagerly await Canon's next refresh - G3?
