I like my Coolpix 5700 very much. It is a high quality camera, with some great features - love the 8x zoom, compact size, picture quality, macro capabilities, etc. It takes some getting used to. I still haven't learned how to use all its features. Keep the instruction book close at hand at first. I have had the camera for over a month now and have obtained some great results with it. Overall, I am happy with it and would recommend it to others. I also have a Nikon D1x (for over a year) and it is my first love. Being a longtime 35mm SLR user, the D1x fits me well and is a phenominal camera. But I wanted something more compact that I could carry anywhere and have with me all the time. There are times when the D1x and lenses is not convenient. That is when I considered other more compact cameras. I considered the Olympus E20, Fuji and others. But the features of the 5700 won me over. Get one and carry it with you. You will like it.

Problems:

I had to get used to the viewfinder, being so used to optical. I still much prefer the D1x, but who wouldn't?

The battery doesn't last like the D1x. Carry an extra and you won't have any problems.

Had to change the setting on the autofocus. Default setting is a pain, continuous.

Don't like the flash popping up automatically. Reset it so you control it.

So, the things I didn't like were mostly things that could be changed on the menu.

No major problems at all so far.
