This is my fourth digital camera, and by far the best. I have owned the 7i for 3 months now, and I wanted to use it extensively before rating it here.

When I purchased my 7i I also considered the Sony 707, Nikon 5700 and Fuji 602z. I was sold on the 7i because it felt perfect in my hands, especially the placement and ease-of-access of all the settings and manual lens zoom. I also liked that the 7i had a threaded lens for adding filters, and that has proven to be very beneficial. I just did not want to use adapter tubes, etc, that the Nikon and Fuji require.

The lens and image quality is excellent, but, you WILL need to take time to learn the camera and adjust settings from the default for high-contrast and noise-prone situations. I have found the Minolta forum here invaluable in getting advice and subsequent excellent results.

The feature set in this camera is awesome. You will not find another camera like it. You can adjust just about anything, including color saturation, contrast, sharpness, EV, flash, etc.

The metering possibilities are also really nice as you can use spot or center-weighted options to better handle contrasty lighting situations.

I have not had any problems with out of focus shots using the AF. Recently I have been using the manual focus capability, and I really love it. It magnifies the subject 4x

I bought a Viking 512MB CF card and it works great!! Good for the occasional shot in RAW mode and the card is a fast performer.

Battery life is very good. With my Maha charger and Powerex 1800s, I get about 150-200 pictures per charge. I am very happy with that level of performance.

If you like to see the results for yourself, take a look a some of my pictures at:

This is a great camera, fun-to-use and I am very happy with the quality of pictures I am getting.

Highly recommended!!
