I received this camera week ago and is my third one since june. I traded the others in upgrading as I went from a kodak 3500 to a sony cybershot p-50 battery eater(determining factor to dump it) to the present fujifilm 3800. I have taken a lot of pics and the quality is great, controls are easy to use. battery life is great compared to the above p-50 even using the supplied alkaliines they lasted for a week of almost daily use. that includes using the flash and the LCD screen.I expect good things with the nimh batteries.

Problems:

As with everyone else the Lens cap is a major pain. And I agree that fuji should redesign cap and provide free replacements. Other areas that are a concern is the low light difficulties, no manual focussing, lack of a remote release or the capability for a remote release, lack of metal base plate and metal tripod screw thread, a necessity for the amount of tripod usage if one is to use in low light situations. Having used 35mm cameras for many years I find the shape and size of the camera difficult to hold in the traditional 35mm cradled in one hand squeeze release with other. I have large hands and I can palm the whole camera in one hand. Thank goodness the grip is built in and the none slip coating is as good as it is or else Iwould have dropped it the second time I held it. I like the 6x zoom feature and it is one of the features that influenced my purchase however I HATE the digital zoom feature tied to the zoom control and no way to disable it! If I want to CROP MY PHOTOS I will do it with the software. This is A VERY VERY BAD FEATURE. Digital zoom should be banned entirely from all digital cameras and Fuji should issue a firmware upgrade free of charge to those of us who want this feature removed from their cameras.
