The HP 850 is an excellent choice for your digital camera. It does have a few faults, but for the price tag you would be hard pressed to find a better value. The 850 has a great feel in your hands and the controls are well spaced and laid out. The EVF is top notch and the EVF auto on/off feature is a battery saver. The 8X lens makes the camera lots of fun. The images are sharp and the colors are dead on to my eye. There are enough manual settings for most amatures and yet the camera is easy enough to take great shots right out of the box. The optional dock makes unloading pictures a snap and keeps your batteries charged as well. Unless you have megafunds, it's hard to beat the features of this camera. I'm sure in a few years we will be seeing much improved digital technology. so why spend several hundreds of dollars more for cameras that all have flaws too.
Problems:
Slowish focus, but it works in near dark. Shutter lag but I can live with it. EVF freezes until focus lock, but so did the other brands of cameras that I tried. No burst mode.
