I got this camera for myself as a Christmas present from ShopSunshine.com and have loved every moment of it. This is an unbelievable camera for its size. It is well built, takes great pictures under most conditions in automatic mode (and almost in any condition under manual mode, with the right settings). It will even take great pictures in absolute darkness! It has pretty decent creative controls and it is small enough to carry around at all times.

I researched for months as to which camera I would get. In the end the S230 won over the C50 due to its smaller size, better focusing abilities, and in my opinion, superior Canon quality (I hate that clamshell design).

Get this camera and learn to use it. I guarantee that anyone leaving a bad review either has a defective item, does not know how to use this camera, or expects too much from this awesome subcompact camera.

If you are looking for take anywhere, tiny, modern marvel, BUY THIS CAMERA!

Problems:

- Flash tends to overexpose in close ups
- Due to small size, it is very easy to shake the camera
- I don't like the rubber cover for the A/V connection (get a card reader)
- 16MB card is not close to enough
- 2X zoom, 3X would have made this the perfect camera
- Too easy to smudge camera
- Too much redeye even in redeye reduction mode (inevitable when the flash is this close to the lens)
- 9 point Focus assist rarely picks the correct item to focus on. Use the center focus. I think it works much better.
