I have had the camera for 2 weeks and have taken over 500 pictures . No problems so far , far superior to my 1,3 meg camera . The lens range is good ( 33 - 100) as very few of my '300mm' pictures in the past have been successful anyway , due to camera shake , slower speeds ,less light etc. 8 frames in 2 seconds was excellent when photographing sea-lions in the underground observatory of the Auckland zoo. Close - ups are excellent - just set auto-focus to "spot " for good results.Nice large screen and 'attachable hood' for sunscreening.Solid feel and a big advantage is that an external flash can be used with the camera flash switched off to save batteries. On reading some of the "dissappointed" users I can only assume that there are a lot of people out there who don't realize that spending a lot of money on a camera doesn't guarantee good pictures ..... you have to do a bit of the thinking as well. if you want samples of pictures email me at [email protected]. ........ so many lovely features.I have now had the camera for 2 months , 1300 pictures , No problems , it just keeps getting better. People who don't get good pictures with it wouldn't get good pictures with any camera.25/06/03 , 2000 pictures so far , still performing well , I now have a spare battery for long weekend trips , but I can get 130 pictures on one battery anyway .
14 months now , over 3000 pictures later and people are amazed at the results , I would love the 12X zoom that is out now ! I had some pictures enlarged on photagraphic paper and found that my Canon s520 printer does a better job than photo paper .

Problems:

Basically a few 'learning problems" from not reading instructions properly and being a bit rusty on the old slr terms . Otherwise nothing worth complaining about .
One out of 2000 shots didn't like bright sunshine on grass but it was an extreme picture anyway. The bright spot came out lime-green
