I will start by saying that I wanted to love this camera, but it is just not possible. The people who tell you that they "LOVE" this camera are just trying to make themselves feel better for wasting their money on this over priced inferior camera. This camera simply does not live up to the price tag it carries.

Outside of the 8x optical zoom, which is great, there is absolutely no reason why any sane person would spend this kind of money for this camera. The Canon Powershot G3 is $500 less than the Nikon 5700 and the G3 is infinately better...not just a little bit, but infinately better. On top of all that the Sony F717 beats 'em all, that thing shames this Nikon.

You will notice when you shoot with the Nikon that there is essentially no way to get a focus in low light and the flash (even the external flash, sb-50) is so overexposed it will wash out everything you shoot essentially eliminating the beauty of having five megapixels. What good are 5 megapixels if your shots look terribly over exposed. By the way, this is not a settings problem, I took this camera to professionals who could not tweak this problem.

Problems:

Most shots will be overexposed. Of every 30 shots taken, maybe four of them will be keepers.

If you would buy this camera over a Sony DSC F717, a Canon Powershot G3, or even an Olympus 5050 then you probably should be spending your money on some financial counseling because you would be spending alot of extra dollars for an inferior product. Very Dissapointing.
