I bought this camera as a "go-everywhere" machine, something I can take to work, bumming around town, etc. (that's why I didn't spend the additional $ on the A70, so if something happened to the camera, it wasn't such a financial loss). It definitely fills the bill. The A40 had a reputation for great images and the A60 carries that on tremendously. Originally I was looking for an A40 on discount. I loved the looks and feel, but did want something smaller. The A60 is a different camera entirely. It's smaller, and the AV, TV modes are a big plus.
I've printed 8x10 straight from the camera and have been quite pleased. Yes, there is a quality difference compared to my 3MP Toshiba, but you don't see it unless you're handholding the print. On the wall...no difference. With Genuine Fractals, the difference is even harder to distinguish.
The menus are easily laid out, and the settings are spelled out on the screen. I picked up this camera and used it instantly after putting batteries in. The manual is clear and easy to follow. Battery life (even with alkalines) is excellent. Ergonomics are wonderful-but I have smaller hands.
I don't miss the film SLR I traded in for this camera at all.
Problems:
While I'm glad for a focus assist light on this camera, it can be a bit annoying for the subject. The default screen brightness makes the images look overexposed on review. And, it seems the display is a little sensitive to scratches. Get protectors for it.
