This is my 3rd digital camera. I have Kodaks 215 and DC5000 but I wanted more resolution. I also wanted simple-to-use features. So, I tried out a Nikon 3100.

At first, I was in love with the tiny camera but then I put in the batteries supplied with the camera and ran them down in about 10 minutes. I was shocked.

I bought super-powered rechargeable batteries and that seemed to take care of the problem. (And just today, I downloaded an update dealing with the exhausted battery warning issue (very easy to do) and I am hoping that will clear up the battery usage problem.)

The camera takes clear pictures...macro is awesome. Very little telephoto capablity but I expected that.

The features are fun and quirky. I laughed out loud when I saw the architectural "rule of thirds" feature right there on the LCD screen.

Some features, like the portrait features are truly for beginners, but they are fun to play with.

As to serious criticisms, the camera is very small...easily misplaced and because of being so light...it is easily dropped. I have yet to find a good way to connect it to myself short of a key ring on a chain.

Awesome value as it includes Photoshop Elements 2.0, two rechargeable batteries and a charger.

All in all, an excellent carry-me-everywhere camera. Better for smaller hands though...as the buttons are tiny and big fingers would get in the way of the flash and the sensor on the camera front.
