Two months ago, I purchased the S50 after being quite impressed with the quality and clarity of the images I saw from my co-worker's S400. I bought the S50 because it was rated very highly by a lot of reviewers, it's flexibilty and, of course, the 5 megapixels. I have been a long time user of SLRs (Nikon 6006 is my latest) and didn't take digital photography very seriously. Now, that I have my S50, I don't know that I will using my SLR much anymore. A huge advantage of digital camers is I can take multiple pictures at different settings and see the results instantaneously and retake if I have to. Another reason for getting a digital camera is to take pictures of my wife's bead jewelry work for use in a samples album and on a website I am developing. At first, my pictures of her jewelry was OK but I started playing around with the settings and found that my pictures got better. The flexibilty of the camera allows me to adjust depth of field, white balance, etc. Then I found the Cloud Dome and my pictures went from just OK to great. Check out the Cloud Dome if you do a lot of tabletop photography. One last note. I recently purchased the Canon i950 photo printer and will never go back to the local photo shop to print my photos. It is fast and the pictures and colors are incredible. The perfect combination, Canon S50 and i950!
