I've had my 5400 for a couple weeks now. I'm very happy with the results, some of which you can see at:
While the camera is not perfect, it's probably the closest that any camera has yet come for my needs.
I investigated the Digital SLR cameras, but even ignoring price they are just too bulky and require at least 2 or three lenses to have a reasonable wide angle to tele range. The 5400 is small enough (though not pocket sized) to take with you most of the time.
I looked at the CoolPix 5700 and evaluated the possibility that there will be a replacement model soon. But a number of things about the 5700 bothered me, such as the lack of the wide-angle capability of the 5400 (much more useful than the extra 200mm of telephoto), and I really disliked the digital viewfinder.
So a strong thumbs-up for the 5400
Problems:
So far everything works better than my CP 950 and 2100, so no complaints yet.
