Excellent all around digital camera...

This camera offers a nice blend of size and picture quality... Maybe 95% of the picture quality of the Canon G5/Sony F717 but only about 60% of the size....The smaller cameras from Sony and Canon I thought give away too much in lowlight peformance compared to their big brothers... the V1 doesn't.

The camera performs very well in many different situations(indoor or outdoor) and has tons of features. And the controls are easy to master for someone that has had just limited experience with digital cameras in the past.

I downgrade the "ease of use" because of the less then stellar battery life -- this camera is probably average in that category and the fact that many people will probably end up buying 256 mb memory stick select cards with this camera... The price of those cards is cheap but you have to take the card out and flip a switch once you fill up the first 128 mb. The camera itself is easy to operate and getting used to the position of the flash didn't pose much of a problem for me.. I did hear the Sony software that comes with the camera is relatively weak but in truth I haven't felt a need to use it so its a non issue for me and probably most other consumers.

Problems:

The negatives of the camera I believe are far outweighed by its positives... But I'll list them anyway..

1) A tad expensive... Look for good coupon and then buying from Dell is probably a good bet.
2) uses memory stick... good prices on memory stick select can be had but I'd rather go with memory stick pro... At the 256 mb size and above memory stick pro is about twice as expensive as compact flash..
3) camera could be a little bit smaller depth wise even if it had to be a bit longer.
4) Battery life could be better. I do like the fact that the camera tells you how much time is left on the battery....
