After mucking through with an old 1.0 MP camera, after it's timely demise, I came to this site as well as Epinions to do some research on new cameras. After about a month of research, I settled on the Canon A60 because it seemed like it was the best camera for my needs in my price range. I sometimes wish I bit down and bought the A70 instead, but I haven't had a need to print out photos yet and I am very very happy with my purchase. I am new to photography as an art, so I didn't want to be limited to point and shoot. This camera has different modes and I've been playing around with all of them, including full Manual. It was easy for me to learn and to use.

It's good for energy consumption, better than what I'm used to. I can run around for a few hours with the LCD on, taking pictures on a set of NiMH rechargeable batteries.

The images themselves come out really well. I bought a 256 compact flash card so I have the liberty to take up to 450 1600*1200 res. pictures. I've only been taking pictures at this resolution. My favourite kinds of photography are macro and night, and both have turned out decent. I'm having fun playing with all the functions but now I find that I'm actually taking time to set up shots, and am getting more confident with it. Problems:

Because I'm picky, the slight, yet detectable noise on low-level light bothers me, but I found a slight Smart Blur filter on photo shop could fix most of it. The noise only seems to happen most when it's not completely light (as in on an overcast sunset), and doesn't seem to be a big problem in complete night. Also, as mentioned before, macro shots are a little soft focused, which could be a good effect. This problem isn't a big deal unless you're looking for it. If you're not extremely picky this shouldn't bother you, and I am somewhat, it isn't a huge problem for me..
