After obsessing for months on which digital camera to select, I decided on the s45 (even though the s50 and a80 are newer models). The reviews seem to indicate that the ccd/lens matchup is better on the s45 than the s50 anyway. So, after years of SLR use, I broke down and went digital, and have really come to love this camera. The pictures are crisp and clear, color reproduction is very accurate, and the white balance is superb, especially using the custom WB settings. Initial learning curve on figuring out how to use the features isn't too bad, and my wife much prefers to use this one, as it shoots excellent "auto" mode photos. The software included is excellent and actually useful, although I still prefer photoshop 7. Histogram display is helpful, as is the RAW storage which lets you really tinker with the photo later on (not that you need to as the photos are excellent). Overall a solid feel, and a solid camera. I have used most of the major camera brands and always come back to Canon. Way to go Canon on this one.

Problems:

none as of yet, however, focus in low light seems to be a bit suspect. That said, it is still better than most of the digicams in this class (which I have tired out) due to the af assist light.
