Despite the (numerous) reviews, despite the new-product weak-areas, despite the non-E-1-owning critiques, I know what I was putting my money into before I held the camera for the first time. As a previous E-10 user, OLYMPUS had proven themselves with a quality product. The E-1 followed tradition and I am not disappointed. The ability to adjust the E-1 settings to the current shooting situation is the best advantage thus far.
The E-1 has satisfied my longing for a DSLR that is flexible and robust. I have had mine in severe conditions (wind & rain, heavy snow, sand) and the camera operates like a champ and the captures as expected!
The best few of the (till now) over 20,000 exposures taken can be seen at http://photos.schmith.com

Problems:

1. Under certain camera settings, the E-1 will (4 times thus far) hang in the "BUSY" state. Only resolution is to remove the battery.
2. When changing objectives, the contacts don't match and the camera does not react to shutter-release, AF or MF.
Both of these are few and far between and in my opinion, not a reason for concern.
