I have had my 300D for three weeks. It is my 4th digital My previous
cameras were Olympus the last one a C-4040.

The Rebel produces excellent photos. I find it much easier to use than
my other digicams. Battery life is excellent. The kit lens does a very
nice job but I'll be adding some additional lenses in the near future.
The 300D allows one to just point and shoot for snapshots or shoot
using the RAW format with aperture priority, shutter priority,
programmed Av , or manual. The Digital Rebel was, for me, the best
upgrade from my 4040. It will allow me to expand my photographic
skills and learn new techniques. When I feel ready for more advanced
shooting I can move up to the EOS 10D (or whatever replaces it
future years.

4/1/04 Addendum
After using my EOS 300D for the better part of 3-months with
additional lenses I can say that the the digital Rebel was well worth the
investment. It took awhile to fully understand Cannon’s evaluative
metering scheme but once I understood how to use it correctly, I
have had no problems with the quality of the photos.

Problems:

Much has been written about underexposure. I find sometimes I will
get underexposed photos. However, I believe that it is due to my lack
of experience, not the Rebel because most of the time the shots are
good. One can, however, use exposure compensation to avoid
underexposure so I don't see it as a major problem. Personally, I think
that if one understands and uses Canon's Evaluative metering under
exposure is not a problem.

4/1/04 Addendum
The only thing I have encountered as being a problem might be the 4-
shot continuous limit. I don’t do that much photography where more
than 4 shots would be useful (e.g., sports/action) so its not a real
problem for me. However, if you need more capability in that area the
Rebel may disappoint you. Other than that, I’m very pleased with my
EOS 300D.
