It took me 6 months to decide on CP5400 but the wait was well worth it.
Having progressed from a Casio QV3000, Canon AS6, Canon AE-1 and the Nikon 501 SLR, I must admit that the quality of the shots are simply excellent.
I have never had any luck in getting great night shots with my previous QV3000 or compacts but with the CP5400, it's pretty close to the results I used to get on my SLRs.
With an ergonomically design grip and well placed dials and buttons, the camera sits very comfortably in the hand.
The quality of the lens is simply superb (typical of Nikon)especially macro and close distance shbjects. The color balance of the shots taken with the CP5400 is excellent. Skin tones appears accurate and scenery shots very vibrant without being unduly contrasty.
The esposure is simply superb as one would expect from a Nikon.
Nikon View is bundled with the CP5400 is also easy to use and an excellent tool to mange and edit digital photos. In fact I am also using it to color-correct digital shots taken with my older QV3000.
The built-in speed light is simply excellent for a compact size camera. The shots are well exposed and the speed light options are great.
One of the great features that impressed me is the ability to change modes / setting via the rotary dial which is a boon in comparison to having to fumble around with buttons and menus as were the case on other earlier digicams. This is really convenient for manual mode work.
Being a Nikon owner in the past, the CP5400 certainly meets my expectation of what a Nikon should be.
Problems:
There is a slight problem in obtaining a sharp focus in low light conditions. However, this is not a real problem as there are ways around it.
