This is a great camera for MOST situations. The picture quality is outstanding, and the camera is easy to use. Mine did come with four ni-cad batteries & a charger, though I use the lithium-ion CRV3 batteries instead. They have fantastic life.
Problems:
On the negative side, I find this camera has a very difficult time focusing & shooting in low light situations, and indoor pictures taken at a distance of over 10 – 20 feet do not come out well when using the optical zoom. And as with most all regular digital cameras, the second or two needed to get the shot is frustrating, as even the slightest motion of the subject ruins the picture indoors. This is my second digital camera, and both have the same issue.
I tried to shoot a friend’s wedding from a balcony in a church this past weekend, and the ceremony was approximately 40 feet away. The lighting was fine, but virtually all of the photos taken from this spot were useless. My Nikon 35mm would have had no problems whatsoever. No amount of steadying the camera helped. A tripod may have been the solution, but the idea of having to carry around a tripod…ANY tripod no matter how small…to shoot normal pictures is ridiculous. I will either use my Nikon 35mm from now on for these types of shoots, or bite the bullet & spring for the Nikon D70 body…maybe even today!
