After using 35 mm and even medium format for a while, I was looking for a digital camera that would give me as many features as possible but still be relatively small and lightweight for traveling; I believe the S60 is a perfect combination. Plenty of features and great photos while still able to fit in a pocket or fanny-pouch and only about 11 ounces.
I just got back from two weeks in Italy and the 470 photos I took, even in the less-than maximum-quality modes, are stunning. The few I intentionally took in maximum quality, RAW mode (intending to enlarge) are fantastic!
I didn't keep count but in the course of a day of sightseeing, leaving the monitor on and useing the flash occasionally; a battery lasted a full day on average. I had a spare and keep recharging them, as needed, at night while we slept.
In the past, I've never traveled without backup camera bodies. I actually bought a spare camera (Canon A75 3.2 mexapix) to take along in case anything happened to the S60 but didn't need to use it.
Problems:
The sliding panel that covers the lens/turns the camera on is easilly moved while open so I occasionally turned the camera off while shooting. Other than that, I'm happy as a lark with this camera.
