truthfully, I bought this camera with the intention to try it and take it back. However after the first week I decided that I'll keep it and try to make up excuses to justify this. It's a $1400 camera (CND) and it's a little too much. But I was able to get in and start shooting pictures. I barely touched the manual. For anyone going from a film SLR to a digital camera I'd HIGHLY recommend this camera. There are features that are missing on most cameras that seem simple but they add up to make a great camera; features like Manual zoom ring, DOF-preview, focus ring, etc. small things but most cameras lack these, not to mention the AntiShake - I was able to do something I haven't been able to do with other cameras - take a picture at 1/60 without tripod ... and I've got shaky hands...
I would love to keep this camera, but there are a coupple things that make up the reason for why I'm returning this camera. #1 - price; I'm a hobby photographer and I find it hard to justify the price I'm paying for a "toy". #2 8MP resolution; for the first week I've shot only at 5MP to not fill up my card. but I've tried 8MP at 64ISO and I did not like the result. It was not horrible, but I preffer 5MP for quality. So what that tells me is that I can save $400 if I go to the A1 with the same features except 5MP and USB 1.1. Something I'm willing to put up with. Maybe even look at the Z* series.
I've got a Minolta SLR (maxxum 5) and I'm very happy with it, I've got the 3600 flash and it's great, so whatever camera I buy it'll be a minolta. And with the release of the minolta Digital Maxxum 7 in fall, I find that I'm jumping the gun on buying the A2 at this point.
Problems:
hmmm ... the autofocus sometimes misses, helps if you change the focusing method
the materials used give it a "cheep" feeling when holding it, but apparently it'ss just a matter of taste.
