I bought the 300D after downloading and comparing sample pictures from all of the current dslr's. It showed it offered the best cost value. So that I could use the money saved on the purchase price on high quality lenses. But I have been very dissapointed in the performance.
Problems:
The first thing I did with the 300D was purchase the optional battery grip. Now the 300D really performs. The camera and lenses really came to attention with snappy performance which seems like twice as fast. That means the camera is drawing heavy current out of the single battery. So it should have been engineered with higher battery voltage. Using the battery grip with the two batteries is a must. Especially if your using an IS lens. When you do you will appreciate the snappy fast performance. Now it acts sort of like a real DSLR.
Since there is no proper Spot Metering on the 300D I get poor metering compared to other DSLR's I have used. Most of my shots are telephoto nature shots. And I have found no way to work around this camera fault. So I have to post process all the pictures and that takes valuable time. And the post processing dosnt yield all that much of an improvement due to poor dynamic range. So I am waiting for Canon to release a newer, properly designed DSLR that dosnt cost 5 grand. maybe in 2005 that could happen. For me the 300D hasnt worked out. So it probably would have been better if I had gone with the D70 or even better the S2 fuji.
