Bought the Sony DSC-P100 back in July of 04 and for the most part have found it to be a great camera. The best thing about this camera is it's small size and the quality of the photos. You'll be able take it with you to family gatherings and vacations and not feel like your lugging the thing around with you. It'll fit into your pants pocket quite easily.
The video functionality is quite good.
Problems:
I experienced a problem with it 2 weeks ago when the lens did not close completely. I received a message telling me to turn the camera on and off but this did not make the problem go away. Yesterday, I took the camera back to the store where I bought it and was told it would need to go to Sony for repair. I'm sure this will probably be covered by the warranty, but we'll see. Obvlously, I am extremely disappointed that I will not be able to use the camera as I am pretty much out taking photos 1-2 times a week.
Sony fixed the problems after 4 weeks which was pretty good considering I was told it may take up to 6 weeks. They replaced the camera and it was covered under warranty.
Downloading to your computer is easy, but I don't use the software it came with. Windows XP instantly recognizes it and from there I can download the photos. It wasn't so easy with Windows 98. From there you have treat the camera like another hard drive and go into Windows explorer and copy the photos to your hard drive. A bit of a nuisance.
1) Flash too bright (I think it may be adjustable though)
2) Sometimes photos are blurry and you have to shut it off and wait a couple of hours for it to remedy itself. This may be something I'm doing wrong, but since I'm using auto mode, I don't see why there should be a problem.
3) 32MB memory card not very useful. You'll need to buy 256K or higher to get any use out of the higher resolution capabilities of this camera.
4) Although I paid a pretty good price versus other stores in Toronto, this camera sold for $500 Canadian. With the larger 256K memory stick, I paid a little over $700 with taxes in.
