I have bought this camera after two weeks of intense research. As a first time buyer, I wanted something not too hard to use, but something that I won't outgrow anytime soon that I may have to upgrade. I was stuck between Fuji S5100, Minolta Z3 and Kodak 7590.

In the final moment, I chose the olympus for its compactness, subtle design and its performance in night time.

I have no regrets! It's very compact and light compared to other cameras with 10x zoom. I can carry it around everywhere without getting annoyed, which is exactly what I wanted. I think if I bought a bulkier camera, I wouldn't use it as much. Ah, the size.

Plus, only after a day of playing around, I could take some fabulous nightshots. The quality was better than I hoped, and taking photos was easier than I thought.

Startup lag is reasonable.

The 16MB card was pitiful. I suggest buying at least 256mb of memory.

The case that came with the camera is ok. I am yet to buy a proper one.

Again, photos come out pretty nicely. I think I need more practice to get it right in daytime shots, but sometimes when I get it right it is quite beautiful.

It's got pretty good video recording function as a bonus.

Did I mention the zoom? It's very fun! But to make use of its maximum zoom (or anything close), you will need a tripod.

It's very versatile. When I don't have time/willingness to configure things, I can set it in auto mode (or presets) and shoot away. It produces fine photos still. However, when I want to take time and produce excellent photos, I have access a wide range of options to play with.

Finally, the build quality is typical of Olympus. Nice finish in metal, it's got a good feel to it.

All in all, I recommend it to beginners and experience users who want a compact yet powerful camera. It's definately not the best of all. But it's one hell of a compact camera!

Problems:

- Lens moves around a bit. I noticed at the shop, but I couldn't care less about it after I bought it.

- In low light, sometimes photos come out little grainier than I wish.

- No stablisation, hence the absolute need for a tripod in low light situation and when using zoom. There are times I really wish it had stabilisation.
