BROKEN LCD AFTER 3 WEEKS & CRAPY SERVICE
Small camera;
Nice features;
Good looks;
Average picture quality (Not as good as my good old 15 years old OES Rebel with film)
Problems:
I bought the camera in February 2005.
I when on a 7 day trip to the US.
I took an extreme good care of my new SD300 baby.
The SD300 LCD broke down after 3 day of use.
When not in use, the camera was always in a padded case to protect it.
The SD300 was never dropped, never hit or never had any abuse.
My friend who was on the same trip had a SD200.
She also took good care of her camera.
After my SD300 LCD went dead, she increase the care level for her SD200.
GUESS WHAT....Her SD200 LCD died 3 days after mine !!!
Just like me, she had bought her camera less than 1 month ago !!!
Both Camera LCD died in the same way....Without any valid reason.
Both have an internal crack across the screen (the glass is fine).
Both show a "purple blob".
Both have a leakage of liquid inside the glass of the LCD.
When Canon was contacted, they told us that we abused the cameras and that this was not covered under warantee.
The cost to repair was over $150 + taxes which means you're better of putting it in the garbage and getting a good camera from a good company.
After complaining and tell Canon that we would be taking them to small claims' court, they accepted to repair the camera "as a courtasy" to us.
I interpret this as " We Canon, know there is a defect in the SD200/300 LCD design. We will repair if we are pushed by the customer, if not we'll just make the customer pay for the repair"
Before buying...do an Internet search with "SD200/300 broken LCD"
You will probably buy a different model from a different cie.
CANON's CUSTOMER & DIGITAL PRODUCT SUCK !
PS. I've been a Canon user for over 15 years and the love story is now over
