Hi,
I bought the D50 with the D70 kit lens. So far I am very pleased with the choice. On the plus side:
- All the features I could think of using, some I will probably never use. Despite being feature reach the controls/buttons are clear and well positioned although I feel there is still room for improvement, especially in some of the dual purpose buttons.
- Image quality is excellent.
- Excellent performance. It focuses very quickly and the various exposure modes are very accurate.
- Constuction: Very good. It is lightweight and compact. Overall I liked its look&feel better than the D70s. Its grip is meant for big hands. I guess this has to do with the size of the battery which fits in the handle.
- Battery seems to have a very long life. I could easily take pictures for 2 weeks one charge. This comes at the expense of size/weight.
- Ease of use: Start with the default settings (auto) and you can take great pictures. Learning all the other features will take some time. The manual is OK, I thought it could have been better organized.

On the Negative side:
- My biggest grip is the software that comes with the camera. Nikon should include the latest version of its NEF file format viewer in the box. Also the manual should not tell you that the way to view NEF file is to buy "Capture" seperatly. The viewer is free and Nikon should be clear about it. I had to borwse the nikon forums in order to figure out that there is a free viewer, and then I had to download the initial version plus 2 updated in order to get going. This is a lousy user experience.
- I wish the camera had an ISO of 100.

Problems:

None.
