I've been reading these forums for several months now, and was just wondering whether anyone out there is actually happy using there G2. I've been using my G2 for about 4 months, and personally I am quite pleased with the quality of photos and prints. Yes, I have experienced focus problems occasionally, but 9 times out of 10 I get photographs I'm pleased with.

I get the impression that these forums are used for the sheer purpose of venting and complaining...does anyone have anything positive to say, or have a great photo to share?

I share your opinion on the camera. But I take most of the severe bellyaching with a grin and a grain of salt. Internet over-the-top griping is a new meathod of expression, here to stay I'm afraid. My method of coping is to let it whiz on by.

As for the camera, I am often blown away by the excellent results, most of the time in auto or P mode.

I've had my G2 since April, 02. Love it! Awesome photos and almost all the features of an slr. I seldom shoot in anything but one of the programmable modes: P, Tv, Av, M. Can't wait to save my pennies (nickels, dimes, quarters, Franklins, Jeffersons, etc.) until I can afford a D60 and a couple of lenses. Too bad my old Canon FD lenses won't work with it.

The G2 is an excellent digicam with 35mm like qualities and I've
got the images to prove it. So there! (LOL)

Old Bob I liked the 5700 very much...It takes time to learn it and needs to be set up right (user settings)to run at it best..images are very good at lower iso..My son has a 5700,he loves it..You can see the the 5mp over my G2..5700 colors are more real life..

this is a troll post. probably a Canon rep.
No Mike11, I am not a Canon representative. I am simply a consumer who happens to be happy with my purchase and was hoping to find others. You are the epitome of what I was referring to in my original post. I find your negative energy, in this -- and other forums very draining. Life is very short Mike11, why not go out and enjoy it, and your camera...whatever it may be. Canon is not the Devil...just another not-so-perfect manufacturer, just like all the others.

Thanks to those of you who have happily responded YES. It is nice to know that this forum is about things other than complaints. I too, will upgrade to a D60 in a few years. But in the meantime, I will spend time learning about all the things my G2 is capable of.

Do you like or even own a Canon?

Seems to me your comments are more consistantly in the troll arena than alot I read. Just a few days ago you indicated that I was esentially lying about Canon service and when I responded, that I was on the 'Canon employee plan'. Do you really think Canon has someone hired to come to this forum and 'hawk' their wares?? Really? Or is that anyone who knows how to use their cam and is happy with it must be a troll cause you can't or disagree.

I think it's clear that the G2 is one of the most popular and highly praised digital cameras on the market. In its class and price range, it is arguably the camera that comes closest to perfection. But since digital cameras still have a way to go before they can match fim cameras in certain areas, users will (and should) continue to vent their frustrations and pressure manufacturers into resolving issues.

Just because people complain about its down sides doesn't mean they dislike the camera entirely.

As for the posting criticisms in these forums, what would you prefer, thread after thread of nothing but praise? What would that accomplish?

I had a G2, and was royally screwed by the Canon sales / service machine. My early attempts at making others aware of my experience were met with cries of " troll ".

So what's fair for those with G2 problems should be fair for those who don't have problems.

At least I haven't called you " stupid " or " drunk " or suggested that you " please go away " .... all comments by others on this forum when I first posted my stuck controls problems.

G2 problems seem to dominate the subject matter in this forum, and I can't help that .... the camera certainly has well documented problems, and a minority of vocal defenders who may have an agenda beyond simply informing others what a trusted and reliable tool their G2 is.

Remember the purpose of these forums is to inform and educate, and there are a considerable number of purchasers who use the information here and elsewhere as part of their purchasing decision. The G2 has more than it's share of problems .... check the archives here or elsewhere to confirm that.

Just today there is a post from a guy on his FIFTH G2 ... the previous four having had problems. There is a gentleman in Texas on his FOURTH repair for stuck controls. There was a post yesterday about Canon doubling the repair bill afer giving a firm repair quote. I could go on, but there are dozens of posts about stuck controls, cracked bodies, and unreliable focus over the past number of months from hundreds of consumers on this forum and others. There are WHOLE WEB SITES dedicated to G2 problems.

Potential purchasers of a Canon product have the right to be fully and fairly informed about their purchase. So when I see your skinny little " I love my G2 and her's why " post, it makes me wonder about your agenda.
