Just purchased the SD450 a couple of weeks ago. I would recommend this camera in its category.
Picture quality in general is pretty good ( not the best in low light conditions with use of flash). Color saturation, as usual with Canon, is very good. Sharpness of photos is also above average.
I like the features and the menu system. Easy to get to the most important options such as ISO , Flash, Auto/Manual and more. Llike the way software is designed too, gives a "high quality" look.
More importantly, this Canon comes with pretty much everything feature that such a small camera could come wth. Viewfinder is intact along with a large screen. You can also attach an external flash if you wish to. Not to mention the 35mm wide angle. All these features are a recipe for a great little camera.
However, do not start comparing it with high end models, you'd be disappointed. After all, it is ultra-compact. Do not get scared of the soft corners with the use of flash in low light. After doing extensive research, I discovered that this "vegnetting" is an issue with even the most professional cams. NOT uncommon. Zoom in a lil bit and enjoy the camera
Problems:
LCD resolution could have been higher but that is compensated for by the viewfinder. Personally to me, a viewfinder is very important because, 1. you can take pictures in very bright daylight when LCD is not so clear to see and 2. you can save a LOT of battery. I use the viewfinder more often than LCD.
Exposure COmpensationn is there but no control over Flash Intensity. I would love to have that feature but i guess I could live without it.
The only one thing that really pushed me away little at one point was the movie compression. Why cant Canon use MPEG-4 compression??????. if you wana take decent size movies, get a 1GB card if not 2 GB.
