Bought this after having 2 Fuji P&S digital stuff; this has got pretty much everything you want. If you can find/afford the C4040Z get that.
Fighting your way through the menus can be tortuous, but that's the same for any digital camera I've looked at. (Wife has Ixus 430). The point is that you can do what you did with your analog camera, but it does take longer. One review here states that your pleasure with the unit is a function of your familiarity/experience with it...... I'd concur with that.
Will I trade this in for something else? Not yet.......it's a good camera.
