After 15 months of pure delight the Canon 300D Rebel left me “Stirred, not shaken”. I bought the kit in Prague on my way up Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya in July 1994. As a field botanist, I was initially so delighted by the quality of images that I retired my Nikon FM-2 after the trip, convinced that digital photography had finally equaled classic film! However, in October and December 2005, the loss of over 400 precious field pictures of wildlife on two defective PRETEC 512Mb CF-Cards spoiled that impression. Quality is one thing, data loss is entirely another! Now it is a mixture of love and despair!
Problems:
I have tried everything to recover those images – even exchanged e-mails with people at Pretec who said they would help but eventually vanished and stopped responding to my inquiries. Since august the 300D has been presenting an apparently harmless glitch: the flash goes off all by itself when I manually focus in M-mode. In digital photography, we become dependent on recovery software, none of which has solved my problem: I tried PhotoRescue 2.1, Zero Assumption Software and Digital Image Recovery… As things stand, I am going back to my old FM-2! Ps. I couldn´t figure what “HACKED SOFTWARE” several people wrote was. Prof. Ruy Alves, [email protected], [email protected].
