I bought the P850 as an upgrade to my DX6490, especially for the image stabilization. My first pictures with it have been of high quality and I did not find the operation curve too steep because I am already familiar with operation of the DX6490. Though I have had the camera only a short time, I am very pleased with my choice. I picked it over Sony's DSC-H1 and Canon's S2IS because it offers more features for the money. I can see that I have much to learn to properly use all the features, but I am happy so far. The real test for me will come when I check it out on some low-light situations and some really long zoom pix.

Problems:

My very first pictures got transferred into my computer files with the wrong capture time on them, but this problem, whatever it was, has not occurred again. I assume it was a computer or software problem and not a camera problem since the time always shows correctly on the camera.
The only other "gripe" I have is that the user manual is 3/4 inch thick due to having three language versions in one manual. The size makes it too bulky and heavy to stick into my camera bag.
