I have found it difficult to take sharp pictures manually mainly because of the
LCD screen quality. I previously had a Canon S40 which I thought was really
fantastic but in the first 10 minutes of using the new S80, I found myself
struggling to get a shot that wasn't blurred!! I now turn the resolution DOWN
to about 4 MP to get something that although grainier, reads more easily on
the LCD. Maybe there is a fault with the camera, but after say taking 10-15
shots of one image with different manual settings, I may get one that appears
to be in focus. I am an experienced video and digital animation artist so
I found it frustrating.
Problems:
More difficult to get a sharp image than the old 4MP Powershot S40. The full
res 640x480 30fps video has some serious jaggies in almost every shot. The
higher res, 1080 video does not show any jaggies, but is only available at the
stuttery 15fps. The menu wheel rotates too easily and your settings can be
accidentally changed without realising. Downloading 2 Gigs of images or
video takes about an hour using the USB2 cable!! very slow!
But I do like Canon images much better than anything else and I can't convert
to Panasonic Nikon or Sony.
