It takes work to get the best from this camera. But I have never seen a more extensive depth of menu controls yet with important controls quickly available. It's not the quickest to shoot. But with an accurate live-histogram display, low noise, total lack of purple fringing and excellent resolution, it's the next best thing to a semi-pro SLR - and it fits in your shirt pocket. Did I mention manual exposure on this camera is so accurate and easy to use that it's actually better than Auto? Is there another P&S you can say this about? With the tiny accessory hotshoe flash and extension cord, you have an incredibly compact yet versatile kit.

Problems:

The most recent firmware update has (finally) fixed the problem using rechargeable batteries (camera would sense the lower voltage and power off claiming dead batteries). Olympus service and customer support is shockingly bad - possibly suggesting another company soon to depart the market entirely (and sadly). The decison to make the filter adapter tube (CLA-9) a PROPRIETARY filter thread smacks of greed and a "screw-you" customer care attitude. I approached Olympus "customer service" via the Canadian, US and UK divisions with three different questions. In every case, responses took too long (two WEEKS in the UK) and in no case was the answer satisfactory. My suspicion is there is no commitment to the photo business at Olympus. With luck they will pitch in with Panasonic and Leica in the "new world".
