Most powerful non DSLR I have ever used - especially image quality seems to be better than each DSLR under $2000 on the market with professional lens. It's possible to print posters from RAW file after converting to 17Mpix in PS CS2. I've used R1 in professional works and no client could say that print was from digital camera - after some computer processing of course. In my opinion this camera is worth much more - only lens is comparable to 2-3 times more expensive designed for non digital cameras. Since I bought R1 I haven't ever used other film cameras including medium format. It's perfect for studio and outdoor use. The price for equipment like this is really funny - in practice that's 99% professional camera with all features necessary for very wide range of photography excluding fast shooting and close up.
Problems:
Slowly RAW writing and some noise above 800 ISO - highest sensitivity 3200 ISO is not accepted but this camera is designed rather not for reporters. Too long close up distance but it can be shortened by accesories - unnecessarily original Sony witch are so expensive. The proportions of frame are a little bit so rectangular - I prefer more square - but it's maybe better for landscape especially with so wide angle lens.
