After getting a stupid "Konica Minolta X!1", i am planning to get a new ultra compact camera again. This time a lot of homwork is being done. So read a lot of preview and finally there are 4 camera on my top lists.
1) sony w100
2) canon ixus 800
3) fujifilm F30
4) panasonix Fx01
But from preview i can say, all the review by user are from user that only bought a type of camera and never really tested on other. So how accurate will the review be. So i went out to the nearest cam shop and took all the camera except fujifilm for a test drive. And i was really surprise of the reason.
1) W100
- Really very fast. That is why moving object can be taken so damn good. good among all, even without any IS. You can really feel the speed.
- the CCD used are very sensitive to light. This is not and disadvantage because you can always adjust the camera to accept less light for daylight with bright sun sshine. So the advantage is on the night where it can take a dark place really bright and 90% clear. If you wan clear, go get SLR, no compact camera can take clear shot at night. A compact cam can give u 90% clear is consider very good.
- Photo taking can take background thing in bright colour, not like other camera, very dark. Among three, canon are the worst. Panasonic is almost the same as sony.
2) ixus 800
- fast taking pic too, but compare three, this is second fast, fastest is still sony.
- ccd doesnt seem to be good. back ground thing are dark even with the night mode. And with slow sync flash, the quality is not good comparable to sony panasonic.
- and this camera produce very high noise compare sony and panasonic. All the Camera is set to ISO 80 and very highest resolution to take photo. Normally with low resolution there is no noise, but try it on high resolution. i think beside fujiflm , sony is the second to get really less noise. panasonic is also good , abit different compare to sony. But ixus....haha....
3) pana Fx01
- very slow photo taken among 3. But it's not a fully disadvantage too. Still is fast, only not that fast compare with sony and ixus. I think 1 to 2 sec from click to capture photo. this not including saving the photo. Only snap and take.
- One good thing about this camera is, the CCD are really very very good..we tested it with device called "night capture KON". This is a device where there is photo in a silinder con. This KON is design to manually allow amount of light to the picture in the kon. so you put the camera on top of it and take photo. This way u control how many light to the camera and can accurately measure the CCD qulity and it sensitivity. Surpisingly panasonic(80% bright, 70% quality) can take evry good pic, then sony (start to blur already 40% bright, 40% quality), the worst is canon ( cannot see the pic at all. 10% bright, 10% pic quality) This prove the CCD on panasonic is very good incapturing photo. But panasonic take long time to capture the photo, meaning allowing more light to go the camera. So in real life, who will and able to stand without moving for so long. Sony is quicker, but blur.
- another thing is the 28mm wide...quite fun to play with, but for me is good to have but not really necessary for me.
Conclusion
=======
I cant find any reason to get ixs 800 with such a price. But is not totally useless, as it's still on top of a lot of camera out there. Panaosnic has evry good CCD in capturing light, bare in mind, it need a longer time to capture the light in order to produce such a bright pic at night and a steady shot too. If thing are moving and without tripod, i bet it will have the same quality and brightness as sony W100.
Sony in the other hand i think is really worth to buy with the price and spec. Len are good brand, the CCD is SUPER HAD, and also the battery can last long. Snaping and photo quality is really what i wanted, if u wan to compare with SLR....of cos it cant, but on it's class i think is really good. Only fujilfil F30 and Z3 can compete with it.
The most important thing in camera is
1) capturing light fast - so you will not have problem with shaking due to longer time on shutter lag. Bare in mind once lence is open, it will not close until the photo brightness is enuf. That is why it's important for moving object. If you use Higher ISO , then more brightness but in return more noice. So better have a CCD that is really sensitie to light
2) speed of processing - like my X1 , the speed are too slow. when you saw some pretty girl, you need to act fast and SNAP fast before it run away from your scene. Panasonic has very good ccd light capturing, but is a bit slow. Probabaly better than my X1. Canon has ver fast snapping shot, but it has very low light capturing on far distance. if the girl is at a about 20 meter away. so you will see your girl in dark skin.
Problems:
The only problem i got with the Sony is, it cant support other type of memory beside it's....and battery/ memory is really EXP.
