Couldn't afford 5D, and didn't want to settle with 30D. So I got the 400D with the
view to buy 3 L series lens. Getting 17-40 in a few days (then 24-105, then
100-400). I borrowed a 10D for a few months and then a 5D for a weekend. The
400D is a superb camera. But it's trumps are the fact that the superior CMOS and
buying into the Canons EF lens system (especially L series) convinced me over the,
admittedly better built and featured, Nikons. Spot metering would be nice, etc but
in the end two most important features for a DSLR are CCD/CMOS and lens. Once
I've got my 3 L Series lenses I'll save up for a full frame DLSR.

For the money though, it's an absolute bargain. Paid £489 for mine!

Problems:

Seems a little small, but is acutally very usable. Would've preferd a top LCD to show
status etc, but I'm warming to huge LCD.

Auto Wight Balance isn't great (same as 5D and 10D though).

Spot Metering is missed, but centre-weighted is there.

Battery spec is a bit naff, although seems to last for a long time(!)

Isn't full frame! Although is a quarter of the price!
