Bought this camera just under a year ago. Have come to realize that it is a Classic. Tried to upgrade recently to the Sony A100 but gave up because of image quality problems. Also tried to upgrade to the new Canon 400D - returned it after 1 week as the images were noisy at ISO 200 and 400 and the sharpness was not a patch on the Minolta 5D.
Problems:
If you have a 5D hang onto it because you won't get much better. More Megapixels do not equate to being better - well not yet anyway - and I love my Megapixels but I have been sorely bitten recently, having to return 2 supposedly better cameras.
However do look at the Dyxum website to compare leses. I am using the Minolta 28-85 and my copy of it is seriously sharp and very cheap to buy. Also don't dismiss the Tamron and Sigma 18-200 walkaround lenses. If you are a happy snapper like me you could do worse. Even owned a Tamron 28-200 Silver once and that was great!!
Lastly, for long distance work, the Sigma 70-300 APO DG MACRO is brilliant.
