I bought my kid the W50. Told my brother to get the W70 for 20 bucks more. Put it on P mode. Make color rich. Sharpness all the way up. Set it at 100 ISO. The W50 has 80 iso. Use flash to fill in shadows out doors. Take red eye off and fix pics later with photo program. Red eye makes people walk away as the flash twinkles to reduce their pupil size. For video, set the focal length to infinity of what ever distance you think a close subject is. It will stop the constant blur then focus as the cam keeps adjusting. Indoors, use the quick left scroll button to go into exposure. Set it up to plus 1.0 for pics and video indoors. Remember to put it back to normal afterwards when you go outside. Learn to use these simple tricks and you will get sharp pics. I have owned Canon's for years. They take great pics but they all break on me. E18 errors and whatnot. These little W series cams are great little video cameras to have inthe pocket. They beat cell phone video and if you get a sleek case like the neoprene one I got from Staples, they stay really compact. A tip. Put a tight bead on the wrist strap. Slip it up when you put the strap on. If you drop it, your hand will stay in the loop of the strap. BTW, try importing your video into Nero or your program of choice. I like Vegas. I put filters on the video with transitions. The color can be made rich. I put it on progressive video rendering instead of interlaced. It seems to come out clearer with no artifacts. Not a bad render for a small little point and shoot. Got a 4GB card for 80 bucks after rebate online. Sandisk that writes fast and stores more than Sony brand. ALSO, watch for handshake. Breath out slow during the snap or use two second timer with a relaxed grip. Gets rid of muscle shake. Use noise Ninja to take out grain in higher ISO shots.
Problems:
No shutter / aperture priority but who cares for a P/S
