This was my first step up from the regular point and shoot digital cameras. it was very good value at the time and had a lot to offer.
even though it falls short in a lot of areas (see below) i still must say that this camera, for the price it was and what it offered at the time, was a fantastic bargain. i have taken some of my best photos on it and it served me extremely well. if the AF assembly hadnt been knocked out of place from a drop, i would still be using this camera.
Problems:
This camera has a few very annoying problems/ shortcomings:
when the battery is low and you start to review photos, the camera will retract its lens into the casing when not in shoot mode. this is a self defense mechanism perhaps. however this is very annoying as it runs the battery down even more. Fuji have solved this seemingly in the s5600 because it has no external moving parts.
the maximum shutter open time is 2 seconds which really is annoying for any enthusiast. it forces you to use a higher iso (up to 800) to compensate for dark shots.
at 800iso the quality is forced down to 1m pixels.
for continuous shooting (up to 40 shots), the best quality if will allow you to use is 1m pixels.
the AF illuminator is not very good at all under dark situations.
there is no manual focus lens and using the rocker buttons is a waste of time IMHO, the cliff you will have wanted to take a photo of will have long been wind eroded!
