I have compared EOS 350 with EOS 400, and I think that 350 has very slightly better image quality - less noise and crisper colors and more per pixel sharpness. And you never need 10 mpx, 8 is far enough. 400D is more flexible to use, but image quality is more important factor. 350 have also better battery life numbers. Overall picture quality is very good for both cameras.
Problems:
Sadly there is no:
- in camera shake reduction system (would be good to use with prime lens)
- remaining minutes of the battery life
- no option to set slowest shutter speed and maximum ISO (superb possibility in Nikon)
- no such good viewfinder as in Nikon D80.
But for the given price this still is very good, although I would suggest 350D.
