I bought a Casio Exilim EX-Z1050 two weeks ago and used it in Beijing and Paris to take pictures of people and scenery. The EX-Z1050 is not just a very convenient pocket camera, it is capable in some circumstances of taking pictures comparable to those from a digital SLR. It produces amazingly sharp close-ups of flowers with good colour rendition. The 10 megapixels aren't always essential unless you want to print posters, but they are really helpful in providing an image that you can crop or resize while retaining high quality, so I keep the 10 MP setting on all the time (you can also choose settings appropriate for printing on A4 or smaller, or for showing on a computer or TV screen). An impressive feature on a pocket camera is the high-speed continuous setting, so you can use it for sports photography.
Problems:
The flash is under-powered, but I don't like using flash anyway, except occasionally for filling in shadows on a sunny day. The only thing I find disappointing is the rather poor representation more than a few metres from the camera, though closer up faces look quite acceptable. I will continue to use a 35mm film camera for portraits.
