I went to great lengths to have a Leica shipped from the US to China. After all the effort, I was a little disappointed at first, because of the classic compact P&S problem of too many noisy pixels on such a small sensor.
The D-Lux 3 is what it is: A great little camera, and we can deal with that sensor limitation. I bought Noise Ninja & began to work the pixelation problem, in low light situations.
Otherwise, the lens is spectacular. Wide 16:9 format, combined with the 28mm lens is... stunning! Colors are great.
I am having some difficulties with the manual focus.
As for the "Leicasonic" question, I truly doubt whether what's inside the camera matters... you'll work it out with either camera after you take your pictures, and you'll make the best shots you can. The bottom line, then, is truly a question of value. I think I'll hang on to my Leica, & eagerly looking forward to the next upgrade, hoping that it's more sensor size, processing and capability than megapixels. Let some other manufacturer have their megapixels... I'll take quality over quantity any day.
Problems:
The classic sensor problem for compact P&S cameras: small sensor with too many pixels, patchy images at high ASA.
Manual focus is also a little difficult for me at the moment. Hard to "nail it."
