I think this camera is perfect for run of the mill shots and is basically an overly advanced point and shoot, but is definately one of the top dogs in said field.

I have only ever used fully manual film cameras until this and so am more used to a hands on approach.

Having the camera since xmas 2005 I must say that despite my own personal complaints I cannot really fault it .
It is just unfortunate that my requirements and desires now out spec its capabilities.

As I shoot band performances where low lighting is the only thing you will ever encounter I have found that most shots taken at ISO 400/800 using full manual settings or apature/shutter priority modes and no flash, are acceptable once resized to say 500x400 at 72dpi for screen/websites but are far too noisy in print at 8x10inches.

I have had very mixed results with printing with mine.
I stopped shooting with 9mp and went down to the 5mp option because of poor moire from high ISO and low light situations.

The auto focus settinngs also do not render well under low light conditions, and seeing "snow" through your viewfinder when it is locked is always a heart stopping moment.

For what I would call general shooting, ie, little zoom, ISO 200 using an mode rather than auto does prove amazing results on screen and in print.

I have not shot in RAW as I dont think that it will be that effective with this type camera.

Plus the cost. It really is good value for someone who may want to gain a better understanding of SLR cameras if they have never had one before, film or digital. A good introductory model, having a fixed lense is frustrating for me and has been from day one, but I did in contrast to a lot of others revel in the manual zoom.
