After many years with my trusty Nikon CoolPix 990, I decided it was time to upgrade to higher resolution point-and-shoot. My research here at dpreview and elsewhere led me to choose the A710is. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed by the image quality of the Canon, and returned it within 1 week of purchase. With the possible exception of indoor flash snapshots, my 6-year-old Nikon takes better pictures. Where the A710is really fell down was highlight detail and color. Highlights in most outdoor scenes were SEVERLY blown out, even when I manually lowered the exposure. In addition, plant foliage turned a over-saturated and garish shade of green while subtle earth tones on rocks were washed out.
On the plus side, I found the menus were very easy to navigate, and the camera was very fast to operate.

Problems:

Blown highlights, poor color, occasional auto-focus problems that require power cycling to correct.
