I bought this camera to carry in my trousers pocket whilst travelling in developing countries. This is possible, though a case makes it a bit too bulky....after 4500 pics I now don't mind if I pick up a few tiny external scratches....so I have dispensed with the case, make sure nothing else is in the pocket and luckily so far the lens cap hasn't fallen off. The whole idea is that the camera must be available quickly and for that this less than ideal handling trade off is quite acceptable to me.
The H-3 is easy to use and provides great performance for the price! The preview screen is quite adequate, movie mode is good but eats up memory stick space...you also need a pro duo stick to use the "fine" mode....keep the old ones for still pics.
Problems:
It is far too easy to rotate the mode button, also the macro/timer/flash settings are often mistakely changed and mostly you only find this out on depressing the shutter button to take a pic and wonder why the flash does/doesn't pop up. If you ask anyone to take a photo for you, you have to warn them about this!
The photo's are good enough for me, though they look more impressive (much brighter and more colorful) on the preview screen than on my PC....if only I could find a one click editor to emulate this screen!
