I recently bought the D40x and use it with 18-70 and 55-200 VR zooms. I haven't explored all its features, but I am very pleased with the speed of autofocus and the quicklness of the the shutter speed. The VR works extremely well at 200 and I rarely have to use a tripod. Overall, a tremendous value for the price. I think it easily beats the Rebel XT.
