The look and feel of this camera is fantastic. The buttons are well designed and highly programmable making the camera a real joy to use. After programming a few of the buttons I felt like the camera was really mine.
I bought the camera for the feature set. I don't understand why but there seems to be no other non-dslr camera that gives you full control over exposure settings. I was also excited about the time lapse feature.
The flash can only be used if it is popped up which is a great way to prevent accidental flash use.
The user programmable settings (MY1/MY2) are great and allow me to use my camera more spontaneously.
Overall the camera is well designed and thought out.
Problems:
The time lapse mode is a great feature but cannot be set to a frequency less than every five seconds, which is too long.
The movie mode is very poor.
I have been underwhelmed by the image quality thus far. My last camera was a Fuji F30. That was a great point and shoot camera that left me wanting more (as it had no fully manual mode). Unfortunately, while I have more control with the GRD2 I have not been producing images of the same quality.
Be warned - this camera has no automatic modes - none of the landscape/portrait/sport modes I've come to rely on. Instead, it seems, every variable is user programmable. The camera also lacks an optical zoom.
It may be that I simply have to learn more about photography to properly appreciate this camera. Perhaps in time I will be able to take pictures that rival those of my F30.
I should note that despite these concerns I have put aside my F30 for now. Shooting with the GRD2 is just more fun, at least for now.
