I had to wait for almost a month before receiving my new 1Ds MarkIII, without the
possibility to see it first and to test it. It finally arrived, but I was surprised to
discover that people at my camera shop seem to have play with it, as the box,
documents and the camera were obviously "used". The camera even had some
fingerprints on it... I was really angry. Canon should be able to offer demos to large
photography stores, so the sales staff don't play with their customers possession...
What a deception when you invest such a huge amount of money, only to
encounter major problems with a camera that wasn't ready to hit the market.
First, I was shocked to discover that the image appearing on the LCD screen wasn't
aligned properly. This is unbelievable and unforgivable. Just imagine buying a giant
screen plasma TV that cost 1/3 of the price of this MarkIII, only to discover that the
screen is off-centred... What a shame!
But for me it was the perfect argument to send it back to the store, as I will wait for
the next 5D MarkIII, or a rebate for the 1Ds-MarkIII, because while I was waiting for
my camera to arrive, I've heard that early buyers were having problems with the
mirror and firmware features.
I was expecting something significantly better to my 1ds mkII , but it's definitely
not the case, considering the exaggerated price. My retailer even recommended me
to switch to the D3, which offer a much better color accuracy and higher ISO for
half the price... It will all depend on the price of the 5D MarkIII or an eventual
rebate for the 1Ds, because at 8 000$, it doesn't make any sense.
When I read the reviews on dpreview or make a side-by-side comparison, the D3 is
much better rated, and it's the same everywhere you look, from magazines to
dedicated websites. So how Canon could afford to be so pricey, when its
competitor offers a much better camera at cheaper price???
I also couldn't understand why Canon have put only one CF memory card slot,
instead of two like Nikon??? What were they thinking? When you shoot RAW at 21
millions, you don't want to mess with cheap SDHC... What was that call???
I'm ready to sale my 85mm f/1.2, 70/200mm f/2.8, 24/70mm and 16/35 within
the next month, if the new 5D don't come out or if Canon don't lower its unfair
price.
Problems:
• Retailer sticking their dirty fingers on my camera, because they don't have a demo.
• Miss-aligned viewfinder.
• Why they don't put 2 CF memory card
• 2 500$ over priced.
