Had this camera for several days now and am well pleased with it so far. Bought it because you could shoot RAW and therefore have more control over what you are shooting. Have had a whole string of P and S cameras over the years including the Canon S50 and S70, and the G9 appears to be the best so far. It will however be playing second fiddle to my Canon 40D SLR but the latter is sometimes a bit too bulky to cart around or so my wife says. Have had some good sunny day shots using RAW with the exposure set to -2/3 or -1 and the ND filter OFF. Saturation needs a bit of tweaking but results overall are not too far removed from those from my SLR. Little bit of CA sometimes and noise just visible at ISO80 but I don't see this as a major problem. Don't ever intend to shoot in jpeg or at high ISO.
Problems:
Have taken out the extra 3 year warranty incase any dust issues arrise.
Update 23 Oct 2008 :- Shooting in RAW, have increased saturation by 1 unit and increased sharpness by similar amount. Exposure set at -1/3 to -2/3. Results pretty good. Wide angle jpegs also worth doing and with noise reduction turned off are perfectly acceptable. Actually jpegs in general aren't as bad some people claim as long as the noise reduction is off. Whatever you do try and shoot on blue sky days for best results!!
